Welcome back to Gainesville after one of the best shows we ever had back in 2016: Alligator Records recording artists the Cash Box Kings are keeping REAL DEAL, old-school Chicago Blues alive and thriving.

The band is dedicated to carrying on the spirit of the 1940s and 1950s post-war Chicago Blues sound as well as the Delta Blues music of the ‘20s and ‘30s. But these illustrious torch bearers also add a bravado, energy and freshness to the mix that results in a distinctive musical experience and a high-energy stage show. Fronted by vocalist Oscar Wilson and vocalist/harmonica player Joe Nosek, they focus on the raw, stripped-down, ensemble playing that was the hallmark of the post-war sound.

As an additional treat, they will have with them Tokyo pianist Lee Kanehira, who won the inaugural 2018 International Chicago Blues piano competition, one of the best traditional Blues and jump piano players in the world right now. She’ll blow you away.

Fearless, full-tilt Chicago blues…fervent vocals and soaring harmonica.” –Chicago Tribune

“Singer Oscar Wilson and singer-harpist Joe Nosek are experts in classic Chicago grooves—perfectly evoking Muddy and Little Walter—but they also enchant with original songs both funny and pointed.” –MOJO (UK)

“Oscar Wilson’s powerful and deep voice harkens back to the golden age of Chicago blues. Nosek blows spirited, muscular harp. The Cash Box Kings serve up undeniable proof that they remain one of the top blues bands of this era.” –Blues Music Magazine

Opening the show is Dr. Jules’ Cool Blues. After failing to catch on in Nashville as the “Weird Al Yankovic of Country Music”, he moved to the Hill Country of Texas and discovered the Blues. Dr. Jules Gliesche has been on a crusade to preserve the Blues and spread the sound, with three CDs of original material and a fourth on the way, often with skeptical and humorous lyrics. Always expect Dr. Jules to always give you something unique and always give you BLUES.

FACEBOOK / WEBSITE

Howdy! I’m Dr. Jules & I play the blues.

I also try to incorporate humor and satire into my music … and that’s not always easy these days. After 20+ years in academia, I look forward to breathing the air of creative freedom.
In a nutshell, I’m a one-man act on a one-man crusade to preserve the blues and spread the sound … with skeptical and humorous lyrics. It’s all powered by a couple of Macs, several Strats, several Telecasters, a J Bass, two bloodhounds, and copious amounts of the brewers art!
