NCFBS Present: Blues Meets Girl
Sunday, July 17, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
$15Blues Meets Girl is a smokin’, sexy collaboration between British Blues veteran Mr. Downchild
(Steev Inglish) and Texas–born singer/songwriter KasimiraVogel. Mr. Downchild and Kasimira met at a jam session when a mutual friend asked them both to sit in. It was immediately evident that their musical styles were complimentary. Together, they weave their influences and experiences creating down-home Blues. Their style has been called a combination of Delta and Chicago Blues.
Mr. Downchild was mentored and befriended by Robert Lockwood Jr., who was the only guitarist to learn directly from Robert Johnson. He was equally influenced and encouraged by Pinetop Perkins and Junior Wells.
Kasimira was trained at The Dana School of Music, but realized that Blues and Jazz were her passions, not opera. Her influences include Etta James, Big Mama Thornton and Koko Taylor.
Opening the show will be The Blues Art Form, aGainesville/Micanopy act that combines the guitar styles of Dr. Jules Gliesche and Lothar Weimann with the sax playing of Adam Careaga. Gliesche has been on a crusade to preserve the Blues and spread the sound with his uniquely skeptical and humorous lyrics. Lothar Weimann is a renowned guitar maker and guitar player that gained fame in Germany before moving to Florida. Careaga was born and raised in Key West, and has been swiftly gaining recognition since moving to Gainesville.
