Bluegrass with Boilin’ Oil. Reserve your FREE SEAT!
Sunday, June 3, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeBoilin’ Oil is North Central Florida’s high-energy all-acoustic bluegrass band. They guarantee a lively show. Chris Demers (guitar) and Max Williams (mandolin) are the core members of the group. With a varied supporting cast, they have picked and sung in clubs, restaurants, festivals, and private parties throughout our area for over 15 years.
The band’s music is grounded in the traditional repertoire as played and recorded by the “first-generation” bluegrass bands such as Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys, Flatt & Scruggs, and the Stanley Brothers as well as the music of groups headed up by such later legends as Red Allen, Del McCoury, Doyle Lawson, J.D. Crowe, and Tim O’Brien.
The band enjoys playing the jam-session favorites as well as tunes —from swing to blues to children’s songs—that are off the beaten path but amenable to bluegrass instrumentation and vocal harmonies. Boilin’ Oil sprinkles in a few originals within each show.
Chris and Max have been supported for the past several years by C.P. Heaton on the five-string banjo and Annie McPherson on the stand-up acoustic bass.
All band members have received formal musical training “but not enough to hurt our pickin’.” For over a decade, Boilin’ Oil has played regularly at Lightnin’ Salvage behind Satchel’s Pizza on the second Friday of the month from 6 to 9pm.
